Textbook: Saxon Geometry (Physical textbooks remain in class.  Textbook is                                             available online.  If there is an issue with Internet access, please let                       Mrs. Lorenz know IMMEDIATELY, so that accommodations can be made.)

Course Description:
Geometry is used to develop and practice problem-solving skills in a real-world context.  As students progress through the course there will be an increased ability to apply algebra to geometric shapes.  This course will cover the foundations of geometry, logic and reasoning, construction, coordinate geometry, triangle congruency and similarity, polygons, quadrilaterals, right triangles and trigonometry, circles, solids, and transformations.

Required Materials:
  1. Three Ring Binder
  2.  Spiral Notebook (Wide or College Ruled, Student Preference)
  3.  Lined Loose-Leaf Paper
  4. Graph Paper
  5. Pencils
  6.  Graphing Calculator*
  7.  Dry Erase Marker
  8. Dry Eraser

*(Calculators should be a Texas Instruments TI-83.  These can be rented from the school for a fee and on first come first serve basis.  Used calculators can also be purchased from Amazon.com and Bookmans.)

Grading Policy:
I grade on total points earned.   The breakdown for grading is as follows:

A          90-100
B          80-89
C          70-79
D         60-69
F          Below 60

Your grade will include the following categories:

Notebook: Notebooks should be used to record vocabulary, practice problems, and anything the teacher says that the student may find useful to solving homework problems or studying for the exam.  Each entry should include the date and lesson title for the day.  Notebooks will be collected periodically throughout the semester to monitor student notetaking.

Participation: Students are encouraged to participate in classroom discussions.  They should ask questions and be involved when they are in class.  Overall attitude and effort will be included in this grade.

Bellwork: Students will complete 3-5 bellwork questions at the beginning of each class period.  These problems will be review from previous lessons, and will be the subject of a end of week quiz, given each Friday.

Projects: Students will be assigned individual or group projects throughout the semester to help them utilize their math in real-world situations.

Homework: Homework will be given almost every night.  The number of problems will vary.
·      Policy: Homework should be turned in at the beginning of each class period.  It can be turned in by the end of the day for a decrease in the grade to 85% of the points earned.  After that, all homework will be accepted, but the student will only receive 50% of the grade earned.  Homework is important in math, it allows practice, and therefore, homework is equal to the test grades in this class.  Conclusion: HOMEWORK IS IMPORTANT!!

Quizzes and Tests: Bellwork quizzes will be given each Friday.  All other quizzes and tests will be announced prior to the test date.  Make-up tests must be arranged with Mrs. Lorenz within 3 days of an absence.

Classroom Guidelines and Student Responsibilities:
  1. Treat all students, teachers, and school property with respect.  That includes you too!
  2.  Bring in all necessary materials each day.
  3. Be on time and in your seat, working, when the bell rings.
  4. Use pencil, and show all work.  Many wrong answers can be clarified and much learned this way.
  5. Do not interrupt when another person is speaking.  Raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged by the teacher.
  6. Do not leave the room without permission, unless in the case of an emergency.
  7. Each student will have three bathroom passes for the semester.  The student will trade in their cell phone for the bathroom pass to the teacher prior to leaving the room.
  8. The bell does not dismiss the class.  The teacher will conclude the period.
